Drop by and discuss native wildflowers and the pollinators they are aiming to attract! MMWD staff will talk about the different techniques and growth patterns our very own native plants use to seduce, manipulate and advertise to pollinators. We’ll give you some tips for drawing anatomically-correct native flowers, and you can wander into the adjoining meadow to try your hand at field sketching using your newly acquired techniques. In addition, folks can make and take home a paper pot planted with native lupine seeds. The event is family friendly and fun for ages 10 and up.
Attendees should wear: Clothes for the field
Attendees should bring: If you have your own sketchbook or field notebook, feel free to bring it.
Event leader will supply: Pencils and homemade sketchbooks will be provided, as well as materials for lupine pots and lupine seeds.
The event is free and no preregistration is required but an RSVP to volunteerprogram@marinwater.org would be appreciated.
Directions:
Take Sir Francis Drake Blvd west through San Anselmo to Fairfax. Turn left immediately after the gas station onto Pacheco Ave; Turn right onto Broadway. At the next stop sign, turn left onto Bolinas Road. Continue on Bolinas Road 1.5 miles. At 700 Bolinas Road there is a wooden sign saying “Lake Lagunitas,” turn left at the sign onto Sky Oaks Road. Continue down Sky Oaks Road past the Ranger Station building for about a mile and a half until it dead ends at Lake Lagunitas parking lot. Look for the picnic area nearby.
If it’s raining, the event meets at the Sky Oaks Ranger Station.
