Stephanomeria virgata ssp pleurocarpa “twiggy wreath”

J.T. Howell says this is the name for the plants growing by the side of the Fairfax-Bolinas Road just E.of the Sky Oaks MMWD entrance. The key involves closely studying the fruits, botanically called achenes, which are single seeded fruits from a bicarpellary ovary. There were a few flowers of this plant still evident on October 21, 2017, although some had gone to seed.
