Saturday, June 23, 10:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
This 1.3-mile loop nature walk will begin on the Woodpecker Trail and slowly pass through gently roll¬ing open meadows and mixed-evergreen forest with a small creek. Through guided observations and activities (mostly geared for children 7–12 years of age), we’ll discover what makes these habitats special for plants and animals and for us. From the Woodpecker Trail, our nature walk will branch off to the Morgan Trail, and skirt alongside the Morgan Horse Ranch to Kule Loklo, a reconstructed Coast Miwok village. There we will have a picnic lunch and discuss how certain plants are impor¬tant to the Coast Miwok. We’ll then continue our nature walk on the level trail back to the Bear Valley parking lot.
This hike is especially suitable for families with children 7–12 years of age, but all are welcome.
Please sign up ahead of time by emailing Kate; participation will be limited to 20.
Meet at the Bear Valley Trailhead, at the south end of the Bear Valley parking lot in the Point Reyes National Seashore.
Bring lunch, water, hat, and sunscreen.
Leader: Kate Symonds.
