Leader: Carolyn Longstreth
We will explore this north-facing trail for lingering spring wildflowers, like columbine (Aquilegia Formosa), California phacelia (Phacelia californica), Douglas iris (Iris douglasii), coast larkspur Delphinium decorum), red delphinium (D. nudicale), coastal angelica (Angelica hendersonii) and whatever else we can find!
This trail descends gently for about a mile; excellent ocean views will be bonus if the sun is out. We are scheduling a weekday to avoid Memorial Day weekend crowds and hope to find parking without too much difficulty.
To reach the trailhead, go right at the end of the exit ramp off US 101 (Conzelman Road is now a one-way street going downhill). Follow the signs to Bunker Road and turn left; drive through the tunnel . After passing some former military housing, turn left onto McCollough Road and head uphill to the junction with Conzelman. The trailhead and an NPS bathroom will be on your right.
Suggestions for viewing post-fire blooms: Annandel State Park in Santa Rosa and Mix Canyon Road outside Vacaville. Go sooner rather than later due to dry conditions.
