“North American Cercis (Redbud): A Study of Evolution and Adaptation”
Guest Speaker: Camille Nowell
For many centuries, Cercis, a genus of attractive woody plants that includes our native western redbud, has been a focus of botanical study and appreciation.

Eelgrass Ecosystems: Understanding Impacts of Climate Change and Human Activities
Guest Speaker – Sarah Lummis
Eelgrass is one of 72 species of seagrass, a group of flowering plants whose ancestors evolved from land back into the ocean.

The California poppy was ten years away from being named California’s official state flower when poet Ina Coolbrith wrote “Copa de Oro” in 1893.
