Presentation: Manzanita and Buckeye

Hitched to Everything: The Amazing Manzanita and the Beautiful Buckeye.
Kate Marianchild, author of the recently published “Secrets of the Oak Woodlands: Plants and Animals among California’s Oaks” (Heyday, 2014), will give an illustrated lecture, basing her talk on John Muir’s famous saying, “When we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the Universe.”
More information is available here on the Marin Civic Center Library web site.

About the presenter: Upon migrating to inland Mendocino County in 2001 from the Mendocino coast, Kate Marianchild fell deeply in love with an ecosystem. Already a birder, she found herself wondering what the local birds needed from their environment––what foods, what nest materials, what plants for nesting and cover. Her investigations led her into the world of oak woodland plants, insects, reptiles, amphibians, and mammals, and soon she was writing about and telling her friends astonishing things they had never heard of.
