Field Trip: Arctostaphylos of Mount Tamalpais
Manzanita expert and botanical photographer Jeff Bisbee will lead a walk on Mount Tamalpais focusing on four local Arctostaphylos species. Starting from the parking lot at the end of East Ridgecrest Boulevard, we will scour the area around the east peak in search of A. canescens and A. glandulosa. We’ll then move to a different area to hunt down A. montana ssp. montana (a rare plant) and A. nummularia (aka sensitiva). Along the way we’ll be on the lookout for other beauties, including several rare ceanothus. In the evening, Jeff will be our guest speaker at the chapter meeting.
