“Vertic Clay Soil Endemic Plant Species of the Inner South Coast Ranges”
Guest Speaker – Ryon O’Dell
For more detail, see here.
The focus of Ryan’s talk will be on the characteristics of the vertic soils as an extreme, low-competition habitat and the rare plants that grow there. These species do not appear to form consistent communities and very little is known about the adaptations of these species to the vertic soil condition. He will speculate on what the adaptations may be.
Ryan O’Dell is a Natural Resource Specialist (Botany/Soils/Paleontology) with the Bureau of Land Management. His specialty is edaphic endemic plant species ecology and conservation.
